Hey everyone, welcome to today’s Five Minute Leader. Today, I want to talk about being overworked versus doing challenging work. I first came across this because the folks over at Workday sent something over to me. This is not a sponsored post in any way, but I was connecting with somebody on their people analytics team—Phil, you know who you are, thank you—and he sent me some information, which I believe was actually from another company called Worklytics. Interestingly enough, there’s another Phil who works there. But I digress.
I was asking them if they had any interesting research around work and the workplace, especially on the data side, since that’s what I’m really interested in. There are a lot of conversations happening today around being overworked. People are saying we’re burned out, we’re overworked, and I’m always interested in the counter-narrative. Is that really true? Are we really overworked? Are we really burned out? Are we really spending too much time working? I won’t get into it here, but I’m skeptical about most of those claims, which could be a whole separate video. I don’t want to buy into 99% of that stuff right away.
