Why HR Is The Most Important Function At Your Company And CHRO The Most Important Role
Why HR is becoming the "everything function" inside of most organizations and how HR is shaping the future of work and employee experience.
There’s never been a more exciting time to be in HR than now…ever!
It has always been important for organizations to focus on their people. We've all acknowledged it, but too few organizations have genuinely believed and acted on it. Since publishing my first book in 2012, I've consistently advocated for putting people at the center of the company. When I wrote my best-selling book, The Employee Experience Advantage I found that only 13% of organizations around the world were “experiential.”
This principle is not just a feel-good mantra; it’s a strategic imperative. The tides are now changing, and HR is stepping into the spotlight, transforming from its traditional administrative role into the driving force behind the future of work and employee experience. HR is no longer just about hiring, firing, and compliance.
Today’s HR is about shaping organizational culture, driving innovation, developing great leaders, and ensuring that employees are engaged, supported, and aligned with the company’s mission. This evolution reflects a broader recognition that an organization's true competitive advantage lies in its people. Again, something we have said for a long time but it seems are now finally starting to believe and act on.
As we navigate the complexities of the modern workplace, the role of HR is more critical than ever, serving as the architect of a resilient, adaptive, and thriving workforce. In other-words it’s becoming a bit like the “everything function” inside of organization.
I put together a handy visual which summarizes the transformation we are seeing in the world of HR which you can see below.
I’m working on a new employee experience book where I’m interviewing over 100 CHROs at companies around the world and I’m already starting to see a massive shift.
