Hello everyone, welcome to today’s Five-Minute Leader. Today, I want to share a story about NCR, which is the National Cash Register Corporation.
Now, I have a stat here that I want to read to you, and then we’ll talk about why this is so relevant today. I couldn’t believe it when I actually came across this, but I was shocked to find that apparently, this is true—there’s a claim that one out of every six business executives between 1910 and 1930 were former NCR executives.
I’ll repeat that: one out of every six business executives in the United States came from NCR—from the National Cash Register organization. That is insane to think about. The fact that so many leaders in companies across the U.S. came from one single organization is amazing.
The person who was running that organization was John Henry Patterson. You can look him up on Google, Wikipedia, ChatGPT, or whatever you want, but his story—and the company’s story—is fascinating.
