Hello everyone. Welcome to another Five Minute Leader, and today I want to share an article. This one was from 2017. I was listening to a podcast recently, and this came up. The title of the article is Sitting Near a High Performer Can Make You Better at Your Job.
I think this is very relevant in today’s world of work because we’re having a lot of conversations about not even showing up to the office. A lot of companies are forcing their employees to come back to work, but if employees are going to be back in the office, this is something we should be paying attention to.
Let me just read a little bit of this article, and then I’ll unpack what that means for you. Researchers looked at a 25-foot radius of high performers at a large technology firm and found that these workers boosted performance in coworkers by 15%. So again, within a 25-foot radius, if you are sitting next to a high performer, your productivity gets boosted by 15%. That’s a huge impact.
