In this episode, I spoke with David Rogier, founder and CEO of MasterClass. MasterClass offers online classes taught by experts across various fields like business, politics, science, sports and more. It’s valued at almost $3 billion!
We discussed the origins of MasterClass - David was inspired by his grandmother's story of persevering to become a doctor despite obstacles as a Jewish woman refugee in NYC. He wanted to make it possible for anyone to learn from the best.
David shared how he got the first instructors like James Patterson, Serena Williams and Dustin Hoffman on board. He focused on understanding their motivations, getting trusted filmmakers involved, and showing he could produce high quality classes.
In this episode you will learn:
How To Pivot with Purpose: Recognize when a current path isn't aligning with your true calling and have the courage to change direction.
How To Stay Mission-Driven: Ensure that your endeavors are rooted in a clear and resonating purpose, driving both passion and impact.
How To Value Continuous Learning: Embrace the belief that education is an invaluable asset and promote a culture of continuous growth and learning.
How To Transform Challenges into Strengths: Embrace personal and professional challenges, using them as catalysts for growth and as unique strengths in your leadership toolkit.
How To Channel Adversity into Innovation: Use past adversities as a foundation for innovative solutions, turning setbacks into opportunities for positive change and impact. David explained how he aims to foster empathy and human connection through MasterClass across the world.
